Validating a XHTML created by Amaya I validated a valid HTML4.0 trans document tranlated into XHTML by Amaya. Shouldn't it become a valid XHTML - or what? When I tried this, I got the following message from the W3 validator: File: C:\Dokumenter\rb000906x.htm Character encoding: unknown Document type: XML Below are the results of checking this document for XML well-formedness and validity. Uh oh! I got the following unknown error: /usr/local/bin/nsgmls:http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd: 262:27:E: omitted tag minimization parameter can be omitted only if "OMITTAG NO" is specified on the SGML declaration Please make sure you specified the DOCTYPE properly! You should make the first line of your HTML document a DOCTYPE declaration, like this: <-- ... body of document ... --> Or, if you are using features from HTML 4.0, one of these: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ -- Sorry, this document does not validate as XML. If you use CSS in your document, you should also check it for validity using the W3C CSS Validation Service. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ -- Source Listing Below is the source input I used for this validation: 1: 2: 4: 5: 6: 7: 15: 16: 17: /clip/ Gustav Nordentoft. e-mail: gn@operamail.com ----------------------------------------------------------- Take a look at the web browser Opera: http://www.opera.com/ -----------------------------------------------------------
