The site wants to do some customisation based on browser version, and punts if it doesn't recognise it. Such behavior by some sites is what made Microsoft do the repugnant move of setting its user agent to "Mozilla 4.0 (compatible; MSIE[...]". Hmmm, just checked my own hypothesis and no, that doesn't seem to be it... But something is checking headers that should probably not be checked...
