http://www.w3.org/Bugs/Public/show_bug.cgi?id=4037 Summary: UI feedback for URIs missing the http. Product: Unicorn Version: unspecified Platform: Macintosh URL: http://qa- dev.w3.org/unicorn/observe?ucn_task=conformance&ucn_uri= www.w3.org OS/Version: All Status: NEW Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: UI AssignedTo: dave.null@w3.org ReportedBy: karl@w3.org QAContact: www-validator-cvs@w3.org When a user enters an URI without the "http://", Unicorn replies with Critical Error and a stack trace dump. I suggest two possible solutions by order of preferences. 1. Fallback mechanism to add automatically the missing protocol information. Maybe, plus a gentle message like "Please, next time provide http://" 2. A gentle message: "You have not given a complete URI, we need you to add http://" Though it is not very helpful from a usability point of view.
