Just to take a step back and provide some preamble... [From Michael Mealling's reply to S. Kusuma:] > > 2. Use or implementation of Uniform Resource Name (URN)and Uniform Resource > > Characteristics (URC) > > URNs are very quickly coming together. The drafts are being finalized > and going to standards track in a few weeks. The NAPTR proposal will > be out as an experimental RFC soon. The URN stuff that Michael referred to is being discussed in the IETF's URN Working Group. You can find out about the current state of the group's work from: http://www.ietf.org/html.charters/urn-charter.html You can join the working group mailing list (urn-ietf@bunyip.com) by sending a message to majordomo@bunyip.com with the body of the message: subscribe urn-ietf This working group was formed around a proposal for an infrastructure for supporting URNs. As Michael mentioned, some of the documents are moving along towards the RFC track -- these include the Syntax document, one proposed experimental resolution infrastructure architecture (NAPTR), and a sample HTTP-based resolver (THTTP).
