Based on a quick scan of the EOLAS page, it looks like they have made a substantial investment into Java-like technology. The emergence of Java and the ability to use OLE objects over MSN could completely destroy that investment. Purchasing the IP claim gives the company an extra look and the chance to delay investments into competing technologies like Java. Thus, although they have virtually no chance of geting an enforceable patent out of this, it may still be a smart investment for them. Cheers, Jason W. Solinsky
