Not clear what "link" means here - I didn't explore further - but it's
another data point.

Also I came across the following at

"We cannot be held accountable for Copyrighted Material, since we only
act as a ‘SEARCH ENGINE’ meaning that we simply place links from other
sites based on the relevancy of what the users search for."

I have no idea whether this site has links to illegal copies or not,
or whether the links are of the <a> kind or the transclusion kind (I
would guess the former, but haven't checked). But again, a data point
- someone who not only thinks that linking is OK, but actually says
so.

To me these items suggest we not try to define the word "link," which
will have overwhelming connotations for most readers, but instead use
more precise terms (such as "zzz link" for some zzz) that are not in
general use.
