Re: Comments on "Providing and Discovering Definitions of URIs"

I do appreciate your comments, since many are helpful, and often even
when I disagree, they lead me to modify my text in ways that make what
I'm saying clearer. If I seem irritated (for which I apologize) it's
because I'm often baffled as to how to reconcile our very different
views, or even enter into productive dialog. I have not had similar
comments from other reviewers, which is not to say that you are wrong,
but just that I have no independent corroboration of them. To go much
further in some cases really would require some kind of mediation, I
think, such as someone besides me commenting on your comments.

If the main reason to work further on the "Providing..." document has
to do with the way it's referenced in the change proposal call, the
solution is to qualify better the way it's referenced in the call and
to try to set out "Providing"'s limited scope better in its status and
introduction sections, which I will attempt (thank you for pointing
this out). E.g. the status section might be explicit that not all
reviewer comments have been addressed, which was true even before
yours came in. I could make it clearer that this document is my own
peculiar and biased viewpoint (not that of the AWWSW task group), has
had limited review, is being provided only as a resource to those who
might propose to amend httpRange-14, and anyone who would want to
evaluate such a proposed amendment, and that I don't foresee much
further work on it.

The baseline document ("Understanding URI hosting etc.") is different.
If the TAG does decide to take it to Rec track then the full consensus
process will be available. I may do another round of edits to
"Providing" but I will spend most of my allocated time on
"Understanding" and not on its supporting material - as I say it's at
a point of diminishing returns. I'm sorry if my last request for
review was misleading on this account.

Best
Jonathan
