The agenda for the TAG teleconference of 6 December 2012 (tomorrow) is now
available at [1,2] and in text-only form below. TAG members are strongly
encouraged to read in advance the background material linked from the
agenda relating to the proposal that the TAG rescind its request that the
HTML working group published a "polyglot" specification. The chair of the
TAG's HTML/XML task force, Norm Walsh, will be joining us for the call.
Thank you very much.
Noah

+ TAG election
o [15]TAG election call for votes (W3C
member-only): 9 candidates for four seats
o Per agreement from the candidates, election
[16]position statements are now public. The
expectation is that discussion will be held on
the www-tag mailing list.
+ Reminder: January TAG meeting is now 14-16 January
(Mon-Wed) in Cambridge, MA USA. This is a change from

o [18]ACTION-769: on - Noah Mendelsohn - Informally
inform Jeff that we did not at this time identify
urgent technical matters for his consideration -
PENDING REVIEW ([19]Note to Jeff) was sent
5. [20]ISSUE-67 (HTML-XML-Divergence-67): HTML / XML
Unification
+ Norm Walsh will be joining us by phone for this
session
+ Goals:
o Consider the request from Henri Sivonen that the
TAG [21]Rescind the request to the HTML WG to
develop a polyglot guide
+ Background:
o [22]E-mail from Sam Ruby (26 March 2010)
conveying to HTML WG the TAG's request that a
"there should be in TR space a document which
specifies how one can create a set of bits which
can be served EITHER as text/html OR as
application/xhtml+xml, which will work
identically in a browser in both bases."
o Sam's request appears to be a follow-on to a
joint discussion between the TAG and the HTML
working group chairs which occurred on 24 March
2010 ([23]minutes). Tim Berners-Lee is quoted in
those minutes as saying "I want that there should
be in TR space a document which specifies how I
can create a set of bits which I can server
EITHER as text/html OR as xhtml+xml, which will
work in a browser in both cases, as Sam does on
his web site." (typos fixed [Noah]).
o W3C Working Group Note [24]HTML/XML Task Force
Report W3C Working Group Note 9 February 2012
o Request from Henri Sivonen that the TAG
[25]Rescind the request to the HTML WG to develop
a polyglot guide ([26]Henri and the [27]HTML
working group chairs clarify that this request is
from Henri as an individual, not formally on
behalf of the HTML working group. Nonetheless, it
will be useful to the working group to have
guidance within the next two weeks.)
