I completely appreciate the thought that went into the initial draft. Thanks for stating things so clearly, Henry. I think it would be nice if the authors of the current CURIEs draft could work closely with the TAG as this develops. We are certainly not trying to do something that is inconsistent with the larger architectural view of the web. Rather, we are attempting to address a requirement from a significant portion of our constituency as we continue to extend the collection of XHTML Modularization-compatible components: that there be a more concise way to reference arbitrary URIs. This is particularly important as we try to make it easier and easier to provide semantic annotation of content. We are, of course, open to any suggestions. -- Shane P.
