Dear www-tag,
This is a summary of the TAG's activity from 10 Jan 2003 (end
date of the previous summary [1]) to 11 Feb 2003.
The TAG had four teleconferences and one face-to-face meeting
during this period, as well as one TAG-run teleconference on
linking in XML content (see issue xlinkScope-23). Summaries of
those meetings are linked from the TAG home page [2].
1) Issues.
The TAG discussed most of their issues in substance during this
period, notably at the face-to-face meeting. Details about
discussions and related actions are available in the meeting
minutes linked from the TAG's home page. The TAG's issues list
is available at: http://www.w3.org/2001/tag/ilist
Please note in particular:
1. Issues related to XInclude were added to the existing
fragmentInXML-28: "Use of fragment identifiers in XML."
2. The TAG closed issue xmlProfiles-29: "When, whither and
how to profile W3C specifications in the XML Family." The
TAG recommended to the XML Activity Lead that W3C undertake
work to define a subset of XML 1.1. Details of the TAG's
recommendation are available here:
http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/www-tag/2003Jan/0418
As part of closing xmlProfiles-29, the TAG opened a new issue
to address a particular topic that arose during discussions.
The new issue is xmlIDSemantics-32: "How should the problem
of identifying ID semantics in XML languages be addressed in
the absence of a DTD?"
3. The TAG decided issue mixedNamespaceMeaning-13: "What is
the meaning of a document composed of content in mixed
namespaces?" by splitting into three smaller issues:
mixedUIXMLNamespace-33 : Composability for user
interface-oriented XML namespaces
xmlFunctions-34 : XML Transformation and composability
(e.g., XSLT, XInclude, Encryption)
RDFinXHTML-35 : Syntax and semantics for embedding RDF in
XHTML
2) Architecture Document.
The TAG published the 6 February 2003 Editor's Draft of the
Architecture Document:
http://www.w3.org/2001/tag/2002/webarch-20030206
This draft includes new text from Chris Lilley in
sections 3 and 4.
List of changes:
http://www.w3.org/2001/tag/webarch/changes
3) Findings.
At their face-to-face meeting, the TAG resolved to accept the
draft finding by Tim Bray:
"'Deep Linking' in the World Wide Web"
http://www.textuality.com/tag/DeepLinking2
This finding will be made to look like other TAG
findings and announced to www-tag. By accepting this finding,
the TAG closed issue deepLinking-25.
More information about TAG findings is available at:
http://www.w3.org/2001/tag/findings
4) Election results.
All TAG participants with one-year seats were either
re-appointed or re-elected to two-year terms beginning 1
February 2003.
5) Upcoming events.
1. Several TAG expects to participate in a panel discussion
at W3C's technical plenary day in March 2003.
2. Next TAG face-to-face meeting: May 2003.
For co-Chairs Stuart Williams and Tim Berners-Lee,
Ian Jacobs
