There was no WSDL produced or consumed in the scenario described (or should I say elided) above. However, WSDL does provide a platform independent way in which we can abstractly describe the behavior of a system and the desired bindings. Best practices recommendations expressed in such a manner can easily be fed as input into the various formal standards bodies and informal activities such as SOAPBuilders. - Sam Ruby
