creating an svg pattern with javascript

Hello,Does anyone have a trivial demo to do this:1. start with about:blank2. create svg using javascript in the devtools console
3. create a pattern4. use that pattern as the fill attribute (or CSS fill property) in a rect
?
I can do it reliably in Chromium but not in Firefox.
