Well, indeed the test suites contain hundreds of examples, but those are maybe not optimal for beginners. The specifications contain examples as well, those are typically ok for authors to understand the defined feature easier. And this one http://www.w3.org/Graphics/SVG/IG/resources/svgprimer.html from the interest group is obviously not completely ready - but already pretty interesting. On the other hand, this area is mainly to specify SVG, not necessarily to write tutorials - and if one starts to reference some external resources of wisdom, others not mentioned might be not happy.
