Dear SVG folks, On 6 February 2008, W3C published Extensible Markup Language (XML) 1.0 (Fifth Edition) as a Proposed Edited Recommendation [1]. This version of the XML 1.0 specification contains one major change, to the definition of names, bringing one major benefit of XML 1.1 into XML 1.0. The background to this change is available online [2]. The XML Test Suite [3] has been updated to include a number of tests of the proposed change. The decision on whether or not to actually adopt this proposal will be made by the W3C Director, Tim Berners-Lee, on the basis of feedback from W3C members and the wider XML community. Since the work of your Working Group depends on XML, we are particularly interested in your input on this question. Send your feedback to xml-editor@w3.org a publicly archived [4] list. Please begin the subject line of your feedback with "[XML 1.0 5e]" and send separate messages for each substantive comment (editorial comments may be grouped in a single message). Thank you Paul Grosso and Norman Walsh for the W3C XML Core Working Group [1] http://www.w3.org/TR/2008/PER-xml-20080205/ [2] http://www.w3.org/XML/2008/02/xml10_5th_edition_background.html [3] http://www.w3.org/XML/Test/ [4] http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/xml-editor/
