SVG Fonts and hinting

Hi,

I'm interested in hinting for SVG fonts.  I searched for this and I saw 
that it was added as item for SVG 1.2 Full but it looks like later 
dropped.  I would like to know why it's dropped -- I couldn't find 
answer to that question.  Is the Apple patent[1] involved in this?  (I 
hope it's not.)  Or it's "just" lack of man-power?
