Has anyone noticed the size of the plot files generated by Adobe's SVG component? I created a map with approximately 1000 polygons. The size of the SVG file is 237K. I then printed (via a postscript driver). The resulting file size seemed very large * SVG with colored polygons - 19,597K * SVG with just polygon outlines - 1,154K To put those figures into perspective, I put the same outlines into Microsoft word as a meta file and printed. * Word with colored polygons - 268K * Word with just polygon outlines - 272K. I know that when we generate maps, we try and use as few GDI pens and brushes as possible because that has effect on the plot file/ WMF file size, but the impact on the file size was no where near as dramatic. The SVG file used look like this: <?xml version="1.0" standalone="no"?> <!DOCTYPE svg SYSTEM "svg20000303stylable.dtd" > <svg width="600px" height="600px" viewBox="0 000 8000 6000"> <g style="fill:red; stoke-width:1; stroke:black;"> <polygon id="polyGeog0" points=" 4585 1701 4584 1635 4596 1639 4604 1657 4615 1667 4627 1671 4644 1667 4645 1659 4642 1656 4644 1654 4640 1646 4644 1645 4652 1649 4655 1645 4653 1638 4645 1632 4652 1630 4663 1619 4655 1613 4649 1615 4648 1611 4653 1608 4658 1596 4679 1585 4690 1572 4702 1570 4720 1559 4725 1554 4710 1551 4709 1545 4718 1525 4725 1501 4714 1502 4683 1526 4667 1544 4650 1556 4641 1557 4636 1553 4629 1565 4634 1573 4622 1577 4604 1565 4602 1559 4609 1542 4607 1540 4598 1552 4597 1564 4582 1555 4580 1450 4571 1287 4808 1282 4813 1342 5273 1311 5274 1320 5279 1327 5290 1672 4998 1691 4944 1689 4840 1691 4821 1697 4725 1694 4720 1696 4714 1695 4595 1700 4585 1701"/> . ... lots more polygons . </g> </svg> If anyone is interested in the SVG file I can mail it to them.
