Have a look at http://fremycompany.com/TEMP/2014-01/demo-regions-toc.html (I had to polyfill a feature that is not implemented right now, but the markup is very clear about it).

In other news, I'm still unable to think about any way we could basically extract quotations (with their formatting) from a document and display one of them per "page", where the displayed quotation appears on the current page. Some variation of regions could handle this, as stated before.
