Before getting into the cross-fade(<intrinsic-sized-image>, <non-intrinsic-sized-image>, <percentage>) answer, I'm curious...

You seem to assume that cross-fade(<non-intrinsic-sized-image>, <non-intrinsic-sized-image>, <percentage>) should yield <intrinsic-sized-dissolve-result>.

What leads you to that assumption?
