"If this argument is omitted, it defaults to ‘ellipse cover’."

This doesn't cover all cases. It should additionally say something like

"If only a <size> keyword is given for the argument, <shape> defaults to  
‘ellipse’. If only a <shape> keyword is given, <size> defaults to ‘cover’."
