Consider task of defining animation[1] of background-position[2] attribute values. As an example: the desire is to be able to animate vertical and horizontal positions of the background image using different timing functions. Similar requirement is for accessing such compound values from scripting. I think it would be nice if each shortcut attribute like background-position above will have also scalar counterparts like 'border-width' (shortcut) and 'border-width-top' (corresponding scalar value). If it is too much then how to deal with compound attributes in animation and the like cases?
