Some people already noticed it: there is a new CSS working draft, since
last Friday:
CSS3 Speech Module
http://www.w3.org/TR/2004/WD-css3-speech-20041216
This module defines aural properties that give control over rendering to
speech. It is designed to match the model described in the Speech
Synthesis Markup Language (SSML) 1.0. Which means in particular that it
should be possible to take a document and a style sheet and produce an
SSML document that contains the exact rendering of that document as
described by the style sheet.
Compared to the previous version, you may notice the introduction of an
"aural box model," that describes the layers of aural "padding" before
and after each element. The new property 'rest' represents one of those
layers.
If you have comments, please send them to this list. To make it easier
for the editors to find the comments, please prefix the subject line
with "[css3-speech]" like I have done for this e-mail.
