See the "Underlined Ruby" link in http://fantasai.tripod.com/www-style/2003/ruby/ for an example of this case. (The relative positions of underlines and overlines in general are not specified. See also comment 163 [1]. ) I had actually come across a long line of underlined text with ruby, but I couldn't find it this time to scan in. Considering this style of underlining, there's a problem with the position that *is* specified for underlines in text-underline-position: # before-edge # the underline, if set, is aligned with the 'before-edge' of the line box.
