Hi everyone, I a member of Open eBook Publication Structure Working Group and we are soliciting comments for the current proposals on defining vertical table stubs. Please see below. We appreciate your feedback. Thanks, Mikhail Vaysbukh. ===== The Open eBook Publication Structure (OEBPS) is an XML-based specification for the content, structure, and presentation of electronic books. See http://www.openebook.org/oebps/history.htm Open eBook Publication Structure Working Group is soliciting comments for the current proposals on defining vertical table stubs, i.e. "table header column" and "table footer column"(column level equivalents of row level "table-header-group" and "table-footer-group"). Since many eBook reading systems are used on the screens with fixed size (like PDA), defining vertical stubs is very important for better display of the wide tables. One of the examples of the desired layout\formatting behavior would be that the header column would stay frozen if horizontal scrolling is required to view additional columns of the table (similar to the "Freeze Panes" option in Excel). The following are two proposals we are considering: 1. Introduce new property "oeb-table-role" with possible values "none | header | footer | inherit". This property would only be allowed in conjunction with "display: table-column-group". 2. Introduce new values of the "display" property: "table-header-column-group" and "table-footer-column-group". table-column-group would not need to be declared in this case.
