Dylan Schiemann wrote to <www-style@w3.org> on 23 December 2002 in "z-index keyword proposal" (<mid:3DFA2B42.2040008@yahoo.com>). He proposed the introduction of keywords 'top' and 'bottom' to the 'z-index' property value list. These values would lay a box above or below, respectively, all boxes with <integer> stack levels.
