The HTML 4.0 specification (and all previous ones, AFAIAA) sets the default starting value for ordered lists to 1. CSS 2 does this for all types except "decimal", which it says starts at 0. I think this should be changed to 1 to retain consistency. Alternatively, a new list property could be added, allowing the starting position to specified explicitly - especially since the HTML "start" attribute is now deprecated. Tim Bagot
