Simon, then why are we constructing a standard? :^ I think much of what we see now is influenced by incomplete implementations. You're right to think there will always be designs that degrade in a browser that does not follow all possible style suggestions. Negative margins are one example, which I believe are important---at least for side margins. My hope is that when most of the basic style concepts are there, the popular CSS-aware browsers will be able to render interesting designs similarly. Most of any criticism directed at the Microsoft gallery was due to the repetition of content, not necessarily of style. I found many of the pages interesting and like the new fonts coming out of your efforts.
