Dear CSS group, I am writing in response to an appeal by my colleauge Steven Pemberton, concerning use of HSL notation for color descriptions. The annoying RGB notation is troubling to many users and certainly error prone. I encourage you to adopt a more human-centered solution and HSL seems to be the only candidate for now. The W3C campaign for universal access would be undermined by adoption of only RGB. I encourage your group and related committees to participate in the HCI community, attend the SIGCHI conferences, and offer your proposals to the HCI community for commentary. Sincerely yours...Ben S Ben Shneiderman email: ben@cs.umd.edu Dept. of Computer Science (301) 405-2680 University of Maryland (301) 405-6707 FAX College Park, MD 20742 http://www.cs.umd.edu/projects/hcil
