I am not sure how anyone can be so sure what real typographers or what HTML really does. A random and unscientific examination of books on my bookself suggests that English and American typographer usually don't indent the first paragraph and do the following ones (some do indent the first one tho.) French and German typographers often indent all paragraphs and Italian often don't indent any. HTML is such a moving target like any language and a normative statements are commands not descriptions, as they are with any language. Shouldn't the focus be on making elegant, effective tools rather than emotion heavy outbursts? J.
