Though we should be careful that we don't update references with incompatible versions. We will also distinguish Normative and Informative references. SMIL2.0 second edition is not a new version, it merely incorporates the changes dictated by the corrections to errors found in the first edition as agreed by the SYMM Working Group, as a convenience to readers. (see status of this document [http://www.w3.org/TR/2005/REC-SMIL2-20050107/]). Therefore the SYMM WG will not update SMIL 2.0 outdated references.
