Flash5 has good security, audio and interactive features, but is expensive > and is not a programming language, and therefore we are limited to > developments at Macromedia. not true. swf is (and has been for a while) an open-format, which means that other companies/vendors can expand and improve on the format. all we need is other vendors to support the format. plus, it can be manipulated externally by other open-formats such as javascript and php (but not closed formats such as asp & coldfusion), so that you can truly database-enable your multi-media sites. ---- smil is a nice OPEN format (as much as microsoft attempts to proprietize it) that is currently supported by the viewers that nearly every machine connected to the internet can use (qt/rn) and is easy to teach and learn. svg i have no experience with, but it seems like a joint ms/adobe attempt to decredit swf format. no thanx. political reasoning means zero when it comes to public OR developer support (or i would hope it doesn't at least). gekido
