Greetings to all, The Digital Audio Information based System (DAISY) Consortium is a collection of libraries and organizations serving the blind and print disabled community throughout the world. We are working on the replacement of the analog cassette as a foundation for providing reading materials to our consumers. The first public draft of the specification based on HTML and SMIL is available at: http://www.montana.com/kerscher/daisy20.htm You can learn more about the DAISY Consortium at: http://www.daisy.org One thing to remember is that many student books must be navigated quickly and easily. Also many other types of books are not intended to be read cover to cover. The specification provides tremendous improvements over the traditional analog cassette. There are several hardware manufactures who are building hand held players for this type of book. Also, playback software and authoring tools are under development. I would love to hear your comments and suggestions. This is the first of the specifications that the DAISY Consortium will be developing.
