Monday, Veon announced the beginning of Beta cycles for two products that are designed to make authoring and deploying SMIL easier. a.. V-Active for RealSystem G2 visually creates static SMIL presentations including generation of RealPix and RealText b.. The Veon Activation Server generates SMIL presentations dynamically from relational databases and existing media assets V-Active for RealSystem G2 is an authoring tool for creating content for the RealSystem G2. It can be downloaded from: http://www.veon.com/try/vars_trial.htm . We are very interested in your feedback so if you try it, please take a few minutes to tell us what you think at http://www.veon.com/products/vars_beta_feedback.htm. The only way we can build a better authoring tool is by getting your feedback. The Beta cycle for the Veon Activation Server is not a public beta. If you are interested in dynamically generating SMIL presentations based on custom templates and scripting logic, please email me (mailto:josh@veon.com). The Server beta group is much smaller and we will unfortunately not be able to include everyone. If you indicate your interest, we can discuss the applications you have in mind and determine if you meet the criteria. V-Active for RealSystem G2 tool has features designed to make it easier to create content for the RealSystem G2, including: a.. Visually define the layout for your SMIL presentations including zooming capabilities (and manual coordinate entry to allow precise positioning) b.. Visually define the complete presentation including synchronization of RealPix, RealText, Video and SMIL timelines c.. Generate SMIL files, RealPix files, RealText files and encode RealVideo files d.. Create interactive video by defining hotspots and encoding the interactive information into the video stream The Veon Activation Server has features designed to make generation of dynamic SMIL possible, including: a.. Import existing SMIL, RealPix and RealText files or create new files from scratch b.. Convert static files into templates to define what aspects of the presentation are dynamic c.. Generate scripting logic to create the presentation using visual wizards or by hand-coding in the editor with key-word color-coding d.. Deploy the templates onto the server for run-time execution, including database access and integration with the RealSystem G2 Regards, Josh <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><> Joshua Kahn Product Manager, Veon, Inc. <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
