Semantic Content Management and ebXML Registry

Folks,

I am new to the list and still catching up on past threads.

I wanted to bring to your attention that the ebXML Registry TC [1] at
OASIS has recently approved the creation of the Semantic Content
Management SC per charter defined at:

http://lists.oasis-open.org/archives/regrep/200312/msg00019.html

The charter above is admittedly vague so let me describe what we envision.

ebXML Registry specifications [2] today provides a distributed service
for managing arbitrary content described by standardized metadata. With
Semantic Content Management features the ebXML Registry information
model and API would be extended to add direct support for
publish/discovery/usage of OWL ontologies and other RDF content. This
would include extending the ad hoc query API for the registry to allow
for semantic queries that can utilize OWL ontologies managed within the
ebXML Registry. Knowledge bases maintained within the envisioned service
would be distributed using the existing federation model of ebXML
Registry. All functionality would be available with access control and
other security measures already supported by ebXML Registry.

The Semantic Content Management SC of the ebXML Registry TC is
interested in working in close cooperation with the various Semantic
Web WGs within W3C. While the ebXML Registry TC has significant
experience in secure, distributed management of metadata and content we
are learning about the semantic web.

Please share your thoughts and suggestions on the work described above
and comment on how it may relate to proposed DAWG WG. Please contact me
directly if you are interested in contributing to the Semantic Content
Management work. Thanks.
