I finally got some time to look further. I have some questions/comments. Should I post here? Anyone object?

For example

The elements in xCal are all lower case.

icaltordf.pl generates 
  <Vcalendar
  <Vevent>
  etc.

You may want to generate
  <vcalendar
  <vevent>
