TWO POSITIONS IN HUMAN-COMPUTER INTERACTION AT MAX PLANCK INSTITUTE FOR INFORMATICS Applications are invited for full-time postgraduate and postdoctoral research positions in the human-computer interaction group, headed by Antti Oulasvirta, at the Max Planck Institute for Informatics (MPI-INF). Candidates should have a strong background in at least one of the following areas of relevance for HCI: - Computational modeling and machine learning - Mobile human-computer interaction - Multimodal user interfaces - Adaptive user interfaces. The initial appointments are for two years, starting in 2011 or early 2012, with an option to extend to a third year. ABOUT THE CENTER The Max Planck Center for Visual Computing and Communications (MPC-VCC) offers young scientists in information technology the opportunity to develop their own research program addressing important problems in areas such as image communication, computer graphics, geometric computing, imaging systems, computer vision, human machine interface, distributed multimedia architectures, multimedia networking, and visual media security. The center includes an outstanding group of faculty members at Stanford's Computer Science and Electrical Engineering Departments, the Max Planck Institute for Informatics, and Saarland University. The center is located on the university campus in Saarbruecken, in the tri-border area of Germany, France and Luxembourg. The area offers a stimulating, competitive and collaborative work environment due to numerous high-class research facilities and innovative industry. The Regiopole Saar-Lor-Lux is known for a high standard of living, beautiful surroundings and easy access to major metropolitan areas in the center of Europe. The campus is also home to two Max Planck Institutes (MPI), MPI for Informatics (MPI-INF) and MPI for Software Systems (MPI-SWS), the German Research Institute for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI), the Cluster of Excellence on Multimodal Computing and Interaction, the Center for Bioinformatics, and the Graduate School of Computer Science. These institutions cooperate closely and comprise a total of more than 300 researchers in computer science. The members of both the Max Planck Institutes teach at Saarland University.
