r12a asked for an update on the status of various i18n-related CSS specs, so here's a rundown of where we're at afaict: CSS Writing Modes Level 3 - stable * Goal to get to REC by the end of this year * Draft implementation report: https://drafts.csswg.org/css-writing-modes-3/implementation-report-2019-08 * Koji and I will review test failures later this week, fix tests and/or implementations to the extent we reasonably can CSS Writing Modes Level 4 - stable * Blocked on 2nd implementations of new features, e.g. of sideways-rl/sideways-lr CSS Text Decoration Level 3 - stable * Spec is quite stable and up-to-date. * Most features have implementations, but spec isn't well-tested -> needs QA ownership / efforts CSS Text Decoration Level 4 - exploring * Outstanding actions for fantasai to update the spec with resolutions and merge in all of the Level 3 prose. * Overall seems to be in the mid-WD “Revising” stage [1] * Some implementations of some features. * It's maybe possible to get to CR, optimistically-speaking, end of 2020, if this is a priority. CSS Logical Properties 1 - refining * A few gnarly problems around shorthands, otherwise not too many issues * Widely implemented * Needs resolving the gnarly issues + a moderate amount of editing work (2-5 days) to clear out current issues list CSS Text Level 3 - refining * Goal to get to CR by the end of this year * Florian and I are triaging issues, will send a more detailed report soon CSS Text Level 4 - exploring * Mostly in the “Experimental” early-WD phase. ∴ Can't give any estimates. CSS Counter Styles Level 3 - stable * REC needs a 2nd implementation in addition to Gecko * Antenna House claims support for most features; need to run it through the test suite. CSS Lists Level 3 - refining * Tab and fantasai recently completed a thorough update of the spec, * It is now a fairly reliable as a basis for implementation * Open issues primarily around more exact marker positioning rules and integration with HTML reversed numbering * i18n should review https://www.w3.org/TR/css-lists-3/#marker-side CSS Inline Layout Level 3 - exploring * Major layout spec -> multi-year intensive project. * fantasai intends to prioritize this over the next few years (currently trying to solicit funding) now that Grid and Flexbox are mostly done * strong interest from authoring community, especially leading controls CSS Ruby Level 1 - revising * Somewhat complex layout spec * Fair pile of issues that need triage / resolution / editing, but nothing earth-shattering * Behind due to focus on other layout specs * Gecko has an implementation; Antenna House also claims some support ~fantasai [1] http://fantasai.inkedblade.net/weblog/2011/inside-csswg/process#revising
