Just for the historical record, RFC 1942 (HTML Tables) was published in May 1996 as an Experimental RFC [RFC1942], and RFC 1980 (A Proposed Extension to HTML : Client-Side Image Maps) was published in August 1996 as an Informational RFC [RFC1980]. Neither of them were on the Standards Track, and both have been obsoleted by RFC 2854 [RFC2854].
