Greg, I read your message with interest.. I get the digest form, so I couldn't respond earlier. And I agree entirely with what you have said. I have noticed the same issue with the <PRE> tag around SELECTs.. and I do want to be able to use the WWW as a application development tool. (I'm actually doing just that..) I agree that the SELECT implementation is flawed.. but I don't expect that they will do anything about it. Given the current emphasis on Java and Javascript, (not to mention ActiveX), I'm sure that the answer is going to be... if you don't like it, write your own in .. (pick whatever you want..) Sorry to put a damper on your suggestion.. I think it's a good one. But given the current level of politics and percieved value, I don't believe that anyone will bother to do anything to straighten out WWW as an application development environment, which sort of makes our life more fun..
