I would appreciate clarifications to the following problems wth section C.8 in http://www.w3.org/TR/2002/REC-xhtml1-20020801 1. It is unclear whether all element taking and ID attribute should also provide a name attribute for backward compatibility with html 4.0.1. I am assuming that this is only true for elements listed at the end of the section, ie: a, applet, form, frame, iframe, img, and map 2. It is seems that the name attribute is not deprecated unless it appears in one of the preceding elements. I am assuming this is correct. 3. In the case of the map element, the HTML 4.0.1 spec indicates that it takes only on attribute, name. It is unclear how to handle this in XHTML 1.0 I am assuming that the name attribute is replaced by the id attribute, and that both should be provided when backward compatibility to HTML 4.0.1 is desired.
