IMHO: If XHTML2 is going to be backward-incompatable, why not expand tag names for clarity (especially new ones), for instance: p -> paragraph em -> emphasis h -> heading abbr -> abbreviation li -> list-item ol -> ordered-list ul -> unordered-list nl -> navigation-list And so on... It seems to me that most of us are no longer as concerned about the couple of bytes per tag this would take up as the original html standard is.
