Hi Adrian, Regarding your email http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/www-forms/2006Aug/0009.html, the working group did consider your email at the September face to face meeting. I apologize for not getting back to you sooner, but the working group felt that the answer to your question required me to divulge information that the W3C management indicated was confidential regarding the rechartering process for the Forms Working Group. The working group acknowledges that it is slightly more painful to be required to place a group element around an output in order to change the context node for the value attribute or to obtain model item properties of a node whilst also setting the value to be something different. It was resolved that it might be nice to have ref and value working together, but the workaround of using a group is not difficult and that issues of simplifying the syntax are being considered as part of the XForms 1.2 and XForms transitional work (the latter of which was the part we did not feel we had the permission of W3C mgmt to discuss at the time). Your issues has now been added to the future features section of the working group's wiki. Best regards, John M.
