I've looked at both Chiba and other XForms XSLTs. The general concept is create templates for all of the controls and their selectUIs; get the control's reference to the model; process the control's reference to the model's instance data. If you have an XSLT processor that is able to dynamically evaluate the control's XPath reference to the model, there is no problem. Some processors that are capable are MSXML or MSXML w/ Javascript (Yeck!), Xalan, and LibXSLT. Check out http://www.exslt.org/ for more info on extended XSLT processing. The alternative is to pre-process the references before it hits the XSLT layer or keeping the instance data relatively flat as previously mentioned. I haven't really looked, but I think the evaluate capability will be part of future XSLT/XPath processors?
