Replication is a very bland term with regards to proxy servers, I assume you mean replication and storage of the proxy data in this case, in which case yes, they should, if required. Only one role of a proxy server is caching (known as a caching proxy server). Proxy servers can obviously also provide control and a measure of security for a network in addition to caching.
