Hello www-dom, This is a comment on Document Object Model (DOM) Level 3 Events Specification W3C Working Draft 31 May 2011 This is a personal comment, not representing a working group. Congratulations on finally having a W3C specification which covers text input events http://www.w3.org/TR/2011/WD-DOM-Level-3-Events-20110531/#events-textevents and keyboard events http://www.w3.org/TR/2011/WD-DOM-Level-3-Events-20110531/#events-keyboardevents and clearly separates the two. An earlier version was in DOM2 events but was removed. While it certainly had problems, this meant that W3C specifications had no way at all to deal with keyboards. The removal had worse effects than the defects. Competing proprietary specifications had this functionality, while applications built on open standards did not. This was a significant setback for deployment of the open web platform and it is heartening to see this functionality in this specification. This is not a request for change. I am happy with your resolution of this comment (unless you remove or defer the functionality in response to other comments). -- Chris Lilley Technical Director, Interaction Domain W3C Graphics Activity Lead, Fonts Activity Lead Co-Chair, W3C Hypertext CG Member, CSS, WebFonts, SVG Working Groups
