The sole other difference is that in gbk 0x80 maps to U+20AC and in gb18030 0xA2E3 maps to U+20AC. The solution for that is already in the Encoding Standard, make both map to U+20AC and have encoding scenarios fail for U+20AC on legacy gbk sites. -- http://annevankesteren.nl/
