Thanks for the responses Helder and William Explicitly setting "clear:none" didn’t seem to make a difference but setting the table to float left moved it up to the right of the image as required. I don’t think this should be necessary but at least it works. Maybe the default value for clear property [1] isn't coherent among implementations...? Try forcing it to a value (apparently "clear:none" if you'd expect the table displayed right). But hey, I'm just guessing - this may be due to multiple things such as small font alignment differences etc. - it will all depend on your current page content, unless you are experimenting with a very simple example (just a table and an image, for instance).
