That is normal, because the background overwrite the selection color.

I successfully does the copy and paste to a fresh document on Windows and 
Linux platforms.

Why do you want to consider a textarea as a subdocument? A single Esc of F2 
already does the selection of the textarea when the focus is inside the 
teaxtarea.
