I send my log_file on Debian Etch, where I find the same
problem, obtained using:

env XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1 G_SLICE="always-malloc" strace -o log_file /usr/bin/amaya

I hope it will help to solve the issue: I'm a little bit lost without
Amaya: no 9.99, no 9.54 and even no 8.54 now.
