Amaya 8.8 crashes upon start

As of today (July, 19) Amaya 8.8 suddenly crashes upon start.

When launching Amaya, there is just the Amaya window list (top) visible, just 2-3 centimetres wide.
Then, there is a dialogue saying that Amaya has encountered a problem and must be terminated.

I have not done any thing unusual lately.
No recent installations.
No recent configurations.

I have tried to re-install and done a couple of 'system restore'.
I have also tried to install version 8.8.1.

After uninstalling, there are some 'amaya' entries in the Registry.
For example: There is still an entry containing a path to the Amaya directory, which does not exists after uninstallation.
(C:\Program\Amaya\Windows\bin)

I have installed today Amaya 9.2.1, and it works fine.

Could someone help?
