Bug: Uninstall of 9.0pre on Win ME erases Programs menu

I've enjoyed keeping up with Amaya developments, but just got myself in some trouble trying to peek at 9.0pre on a Win ME box.

(Yes, I read the download page, and I know Unicode support under Win 95/98/ME leaves much to be desired, but so do the licensing terms of later MS operating systems. I thought I might be able to enjoy wxWidgets interface on Win ME and continue to sail around Unicode issues that have never concerned my documents. In any case, I've never seen this behavior in any application:

After successful download and seemingly successful install, both Amaya and Uninstall were added to Win ME Start->Programs menu. Selecting Amaya returned show stopping error message: 9.0pre simply will not run on any less than Win NT/2000/XP. OK. I read the requirements and took my chances; fair enough.

Selecting Uninstall from Win ME Start->Programs->Amaya menu worked instantly, with no dialogue to slow me down, and one added feature: every single item in my Start->Programs menu was removed. Empty.

Any suggestions on how to find any auto backup of several score Start->Programs menu entries would be appreciated, as this has never happened to me before. Not looking forward to adding them all back manually via Settings-Taskbar and Start Menu->Advanced->Add->Browse->etc., etc., etc., times number of programs.

Thanks.
